"The Park is yours until 10:00 a.m.," a National Park ranger once told us. "That is when the tourists come out."

Not true for the Nation Mall today.

The Washington Monument

This weekend is the National Cherry Blossom Parade and the D.C. Marathon,

This is tourist season in our nation's capital. and the tourists here are thicker than commercials on the shopping channel.

Cherry Blossoms Peak

The cherry blossoms peak today, with the number of their petals exceeded only by the number of tourist trying to view them,

Brisk

By 8:00 a.m., when we got to the tidal basin and the Jefferson Memorial, the tourists were already so thick that walking at 1-MPH was better than average.
